Support Adequate School Funding
Each year, the Iowa legislature is required by law to determine school funding – commonly referred to as State Supplemental Aid (formerly called allowable growth). This is the percentage by which school funding will increase for the following year.
Historically low funding from the state is impacting school districts across the state. With annual expenditures increasing 3 to 4 percent each year, lower increases in recent years only create a greater shortfall and will require school districts to look at what services or programs they must reduce to maintain fiscal stability. This will only push Iowa back farther.
Once a leader in supporting education, Iowa currently ranks 35th in the nation in terms of per pupil funding, over $1,600 behind the national average. We believe that Iowa students deserve school funding that is – at the very minimum – at the national average.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS AND THE GOVERNOR TO LET THEM KNOW THAT PUBLIC EDUCATION IS CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR STATE AND IT NEEDS TO BE FUNDED ADEQUATELY.
