Hempstead High School and Dubuque Senior High School will host the first event in #BeInformed, a series designed to educate parents about issues facing their high school students, on Thursday, October 4, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Hempstead High School Auditorium Center Pod. The first event, which is free and open to the public, will focus on the topic of Internet safety, cyber bullying and sexting.
Today’s students are constantly communicating. No longer is there a common phone in a common area where calls can be screened. Social media websites have added yet another dimension where students can interact with other students without even knowing their phone number. At this session, a prevention educator from the Riverview Center will present the latest research on these issues and give parents tips and tools that can help keep children safe.
The next #BeInformed event will be held in January at Senior High School with the topic of Teenage Drinking and Use of Illegal Drugs.
